PREFACE

President Kimball once said: "I am positive in my mind that the Lord has planned our destiny.... God controls our lives, guides and blesses us, but gives us our agency." President Dwayne N. Andersen, Pleasant View 4th Ward member and the first president of the Tokyo Temple, remarked in a recent message to his ward: "As a young man I was shy and quiet. I felt early in life I did not have the ability to be a leader, so I vowed to myself I would be the best follower in righteousness I knew how to be." At the age of twenty, before leaving for a mission, Dwayne asked for a patriarchal blessing. The patriarch's words included: "... in very deed you may be a wonderful representative of that lineage (Ephraim) and be a means of administering to the House of Israel in many lands and in many climes....I bless you that you may be a valiant administrator in the realms of the gospel...to meet every opportunity and every responsibility valiantly and your tongue may be loosed that you may speak forth eloquently the doctrines of the church..." Dwayne had never been farther away from his home than 150 miles. It has been 43 years since that blessing, but the fulfillment is clear.
