1) In his book A New System of Chemical Philosophy Dalton arranged the elements in order of their mass, which he recorded from the results of chemical reactions.
2) Newland’s theory gets it name because every 8th element in Dalton’s theory had similar properties
3) Newland presumed that every element had been found, so completed his table even when the properties weren’t similar as his theory explained, also he used some elements twice to fill his table.

4) The work was better than Newlands’s because he worked on the same principals but produced a clear diagram to demonstrate his theory. However it was ignored because when it was published as the diagram was not included and so it was difficult to understand & it didn’t make a lot of sense.
5) The table was organised in order of atomic mass, but he then arranged this into a periodic pattern which meant that the chemical and physical properties were displayed also.

6) Mendelee left gaps for new elements in his table. However he left these gaps when the elements he had did not fit into the pattern that had appeared. Also once he had arranged the elements he did have he predicted the properties of the elements that were missing would have based on the tables patterns; once new elements began to appear their properties matched the ones which Mendeleev had predicted, and therefore fitted perfectly into the table.
